Childbirth Preparation

Whether you are pregnant with your first baby or you are a seasoned parent, attending a childbirth education class is an important part of preparing for the birth experience. Knowing what you can expect from your body and your baby during labor can have a significant impact on how well you handle both its physical and emotional aspects. When you understand the changes your body is undergoing and how you can help the process, the birth can progress much quicker and easier.
No matter where you are planning to birth – at home, in a birth center, or in a hospital – and no matter how you plan to manage the pain of labor, we've got you covered! In this comprehensive class, you'll learn about both natural and medicated pain relief options as well as how to gain empowerment in this amazing experience. Birth partners are highly encouraged to attend; they will learn valuable tips and tricks for supporting the birthing mother and helping her to achieve the goal of a safe, low-risk delivery.

Topics of discussion include:
-
Is a birth plan necessary? The importance of making informed, educated decisions and how to determine what is best for you, for your baby, and for your family as a whole.
-
Communication with your partner, with your family, and with anyone who will be present at the birth – how to ensure everyone is on the same page.
-
The birth partner’s role and how they can provide support and care.
-
The anatomy of birth – what your body is doing, why it hurts, and what can help or hinder the process.
-
Signs of labor and how to tell whether contractions are for practice or the “real deal!”
-
Baby time? How to stay comfortable and focused. Pain management is thoroughly covered and includes counter pressure and breathing techniques.
-
What happens during the pushing stage and with the birth of the placenta.
-
The immediate postpartum period and how to preserve the “golden hour” after your baby has been born.
This interactive 4 hour class offers ample time for discussion and demonstrations. Partners are encouraged to attend, but we ask that childcare is arranged for all children so that we can ensure a distraction free learning environment. The cost is $100 per pregnant mother (partners attend for free) and prepayment is required to reserve your seat and materials. Clients of Celebrate Birth are required to attend this class as well as an additional 2 hours of extended class time and the fee is included in the cost for prenatal care.
